Preston Daniels (born 1983, Virginia) is an innovative contemporary artist currently based in Los Angeles, California. His artistic journey began with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from West Virginia University in 2007, followed by a Master of Fine Arts from California State University, Fullerton, in 2011. He further honed his craft at the Chautauqua Institute School of Fine Art in the summer of 2006, where he embraced the collaborative spirit and intellectual environment that would shape his future work.
Daniels gained early recognition for his collaboration with renowned filmmaker Tim Burton, contributing to the sculpture “Robotboy” for the 2008 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His artistic practice is marked by a dynamic exploration of themes and materials, resulting in a rich body of work showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
Among his notable solo exhibitions are Neighborhood Watch at Phantom Galleries in Long Beach, CA (2011), Black and Blue at Andi Campognone Projects (2012), and Over Under at Mark Moore Gallery (2015). In February 2022, he presented Black Hole Sun at the Spring Break Art Show in Los Angeles, curated by Michael Slenske.
Daniels has also participated in prestigious group exhibitions, including OsCene at the Laguna Art Museum (2010) and Architectural Deinforcement at the Cerritos College Art Gallery (2012). His work has been featured in diverse venues, from Retrato at Tlaloc Studios in South Central Los Angeles (2022) to the Inaugural Exhibition at Le Mont Art Space in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (2022).
As a studio assistant to celebrated artist Richard Jackson from 2012 to 2016, Daniels gained invaluable insights into the art-making process, further enriching his artistic practice. Recently, he served as an artist in residence with Jeremy Shockley at the Moosey Gallery in Norwich, England, in April 2023.
Looking ahead, Daniels has several upcoming exhibitions, including a solo show titled Waves On The Moons at The Office in Miami in October 2024. His work continues to challenge conventions and engage audiences, reflecting his commitment to exploring the intersections of art, culture, and experience.
