Alyss Estay
Alyss Estay, uses her own nostalgia in conveying a perception of time standing still, by taking advantage of that enigmatic quality. Often, Alyss’ goal is to use personal symbolism to dictate the overall feeling of the work. Often times, Alyss heavily edits the photo to produce electric, unnatural colors with heavy grain, creating an unrefined atmosphere. In doing so, she seeks to convey different states of cognition such as: expressing a sense of detachment from oneself, isolation, shyness, anxiety, musings, mental chatter, a dash of identity inquiry, and a general sense of a familiar unfamiliarity.
In her Hill Painting series, Estay uses her own nostalgia in conveying a perception of time standing still, by taking advantage of that enigmatic quality.
Often, Alyss’ goal is to use personal symbology to dictate the overall feeling of the work. In handful of paintings, Alyss is specifically referencing her childhood historical teachings of the Gold Rush, which reflects on her environment at the time, seen with her painted golden hills.

Feat Artists, zach Storm and Alyss Estay
A Long Strange Trip explores the multihued and psychedelic themes in Alyss Estay and Zach Storm’s paintings, as the Los Angeles based artists walk us through their own interpretations of nature. Storm’s and Estay’s paintings carry a wide range of techniques and materials, which allow the artists to simultaneously channel their observations of nature while using certain natural mediums in their works.
