Thrush Holmes

Known for his erratic and vivid paintings, Thrush typically mixes spray paint with oils and acrylics, while his finishing touch is usually a display of neons. Holmes’ unapologetic methods elevate still lives, reclining nudes, and even poetry from their traditional predictability to a more refined status. Intuitive and swaggering in practice, his work reveals eccentric florals, brazen female silhouettes, glowing prose, and monumental “TH” initials.

Holmes explores traditional artistic themes, while channeling a more contemporary style, contrasting poetic expressions with an aggressive and unapologetically-punk sensibility. Thrush Holmes is entirely self-taught, outside two weeks of art school - where he quit after being told he couldn’t fast-track to his final year. Thrush’s ambitions match his artistic process, where 20-ft paintings are made in a single sitting, and the initials ‘TH’ are often large enough in the bottom corner of a piece to be considered a compositional element.

THRUSH HOLMES INSTALLATION FOR CLEVELAND CAVALIERS (2019)

“The art program for the revitalized Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse was curated by Library Street Collective and includes works made especially for the new arena, its teams and community. From murals to light installations and sculpture, each piece was created to convey a spirit of sportsmanship and the power of resilience. Artists from Ohio and beyond came together with the goal of celebrating the camaraderie between The Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and its community of athletes, performers and supporters.” - Library Street Collective
