QUICKSAND

by PEDRO ANDRADE

OPENING THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH | 6pm-10pm

THE OFFICE. gallery is thrilled to present QUICKSAND, a solo exhibition of the photography work of renowned Brazilian journalist, Pedro Andrade.

This specific body of work presents the unique perspective of the photographer, through a collective of black and white images that have been silently captured over the last two decades.

Ever since Andrade started capturing the reality of different communities around the world, his fascination with distant lifestyles, inaccessible societies and peculiar points of view has been clear and unwavering. His photo-documentary methodology stems from the visceral desire to shine a light on those who are quite often misunderstood, marginalized and often disenfranchised.

The set of images presented in QUICKSAND accents a variety of cultures located in the global south, particularly the Americas, that persistently resist, protect and care for their traditions. This body of work invites visitors to contemplate their daily routines, rituals, beliefs and to consider the repercussions of globalization, capitalism, and colonialism.
